Former Rep. Mike Rogers mulls White House bid and thinks Trump has less support than polls show

Former Rep. Mike Rogers, who served as chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, is spending the next couple of months deciding whether should run for president, and the Michigan Republican says the prospect of taking on former President Donald Trump won't deter him.

"No candidate declared or not, will determine my my decision to get in the race in spring or fall," the Michigan Republican told CBS chief election and campaign correspondent Robert Costa Thursday. "And whatever candidate that is, I do believe presenting real ideas and innovation will win the day.

He also would not commit to supporting Trump if he wins the Repubican nomination. (Costa's interview with Rogers took place Thursday afternoon, hours before news of the former president's indictment broke.) When asked, he responded, "I don't believe today as I'm sitting here that Donald Trump will be the Republican nominee in 2024. Don't believe it." He predicted, "I think the candidate is probably not announced yet that will be our nominee in 2024."

That indictment comment is pretty much ridiculous. Was that necessary?

If some tinhorn prosecutor in Idaho indicts Biden on something, a check bounces or something, should Joe drop out? Asa baby, not sure that is the way to announce.

It has been established that I have questions, doubts, and issues related to Trump but I am flat out opposed to feeding into all the lefty scams that the dems perpetuate. Asa just did that.

Biden announces now he is not running, he throws the election into turmoil and ruins the next 2 years of his presidency...

Biden announces in November....he hands the Dems no time to develop their candidates...

Fucked either way...

Dems shoudl just focus on the House and Senate and locking that up because 2024 is already looking like a wash

Yup. It is messy on steroids. The pubs have their problems and they are yuge. No way I would want the dems dilemma with Biden though.

And not to pick on the girl, but a lot of the sh@t-show relates to Kamala. If she were competent and likeable people would just shrug and say "well we got joe and who knows what he will do but if he leaves we all know who his next in line is or candidate in waiting is." Except she is a disaster and we don't really know what she is up to if Joe does not run. Has she taken enough beating to get a clue or not?

So let;s play this out. Joe says he is not going to run, for instance, and now kamala has to declare whether she is running or not. And say, for example, she says she is. So now, not only is Joe a lame duck for almost two years, but the dem primary candidates are running against Kamala- ie. the Biden administration in large part- while old Joe is just trying to be a lame duck.

Gawd, what a mess.

After nearly a month of campaigning, a new poll by Echelon Insights shows Williamson backed by a double-digit percentage of likely Democratic primary voters. The survey, which was conducted from March 27 to 29, showed the long-shot contender with 10 percent of likely Democratic voters saying that they'd "probably" or "definitely" back her, compared to 73 percent who supported Biden. The margin of error was plus or minus 3.8 percent.

Y'all will recall my repeated lecturettes on how you have to watch out for candidates who are not necessarily going to be elected because they can do severe damage to other candidates nevertheless. I gave the example of Tulsi Gabbard ending Kamala's primary run. I shall not make that point again- soon anyway- in order to offer you some relief. Nevertheless. More to come. If not already.


Vivek Ramaswamy calls DeSantis "uncourageous" over delayed support of Trump before his indictment

He doesn't think that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is "suited to be a leader of our country" and called him "fundamentally uncourageous," noting the length of time that passed before DeSantis publicly addressed Trump's earlier claim that he would be indicted.

"Anyone that's coming in as sort of a professional politician, with all the plastic features, I don't see our base ending there. I think they need the outsider," Ramaswamy told CBS News during a visit to Washington D.C. earlier this week.
