I don't know that it is failed but I think if you really analyze the major cryptos I still believe they are electronic commodities which makes since anyone born after the Netscape IPO has only known internet living and not the old analog living (CDs vs MP3s, streaming vs. cable, etc.).
It is not a currency any more than Copper or Gold. Historically metals were used as currency before the printing press. Wealth of nations is based not on currencies or natural resources but the cumulative knowledge of the populace. In fact most natural resource heavy economies turn into lazy dictatorships (Venezuela, Russia, KSA, etc.) or kleptocracies (Malaysia).

Here is a wild thought. Instead of the intellectual laziness of demanding that somebody else explain to you the value ... maybe do some work yourself to see what everybody else is excited about.
