Saw this on Netflix last night, Spanish language and very interesting plot. Quite easy to spoiler so don't want to say much but its an interesting view on solidarity.

Not nearly as well produced but also curious was Boketh though I am a fan of the genre. Its not the brilliant The Quiet Earth https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...FjAZegQICRAB&usg=AOvVaw1eA2E3sR7a21mwCpy6AaD6 but sill watchable I thought. At least you get to see a lot of Iceland.

Anyone seen anything they thought well suited to these strange days of political insanity and lockdown?

I just recently watched The Island. Been awhile since I had seen it. Not all that critically acclaimed but I enjoyed it. I will give your recommendation a look see.
 
We had a family big quiz Zoom call 63 connections over 120 family last weekend and I was surprised to discover two cousins are academy award winners (one got two for editing). I won't be getting one unless they make a best chicken and mushroom pie category.

I have just been told to watch Of Gods and Men. Hopefully not too weird arty. Not sure how this related to the current situation.. Maybe the monk life bit. But..

I left my native 1080p projector in the city so I built a little cinema space and have over the past weeks constructed a 2k projector (limit of the phone LCD) using bits of an old cinema projector, LEDs from 30 feet of strip lighting left over from Christmas that was too white (7000k) I have a surprisingly decent screen and at 80 inches it is ideal. I thought it would be very washed out but its not with some tweaking.

Incredible doing the Zoom call on it and a wall of charts while not practical really for me it looks like you are working hard :)

They have extended the lockdown here until May 27th for non vital workers though with more exercise slots and I'm sure further into June after that so many movies ahead. Just need a pint..

If you're looking for something to binge watch I would highly recommend The Young Pope if you haven't already seen it. HBO series. Followed by season two which was titled The New Pope which was a bit weaker than season one IMO, but still entertaining. Five stars.

I spotted this earlier, I'll start it thanks. Currently just halfway through season 3 of Mad Men which is way better than I thought it would be. I had a girlfriend who was connected to big agency advertising so shyed away but I'm liking it and a great grounding in a saner political time. Well OK, it was in a pre civil rights America lagging many decades being the rest of the world but..

Mad Men was well done and captured the era quite well. Back to some scifi. Old school Ray Bradbury, The Illustrated Man. Book much better than the movie. If you're going to choose one or the other, go with the book.

Actually I own the book. As a little kid I was enthralled by the Martian Chronicles series, trying to understand it was good practice for David Lynch years later :) . I had a large collection of short stories and novellas from the 50s/60s era including my prized signed first edition of Heinelin's Stranger in a Strange land (aka Grok).

I landed the role for a pilot for and adaptation of that novel playing Valentine Michael Smith (the Martian, being tall) but the South African director never got the money together... It really should be done though by somebody.

Right now I have started rereading Azimov's short story collection "The Winds of Change".

Politically Azimov was very savvy, I think it is very possible some of his ideas including presidents being selected by lottery to avoid having the wrong sort of people ruling (people who ambitiously want the job ;))

All Summer in a Day short story by Bradbury kind of suits the current lockin.

They played it a couple of times as a featurette in the cinema where I grew up. I think there is a recently made remake.

Dammit, everyone at the beach here in Colombia seems happiest...
