I won't debate with everyone on what is good or not. But just a word on all these comments I've seen for a while on this thread about 'nazi bankers' and 'stealing money from holocaust victims'.

Has any of you read the final report of the Volcker commission ? Has any of you studied carefully history of Switzerland between 1936 & 1945 ? Where are all these comments coming from ? What are your sources ? Have you been informed of further developments on this dark page of history ?

And just one last thing...there is a large difference between a company and a citizen in case you don't know. WE didn't make any money thanks to holocaust victims, banks did (perhaps, I don't know).

So please, if you want to discuss about this page of history, I've no problem with that. At less, political authorities have been able to make their mea-culpa and presented their excuses to the victims of this tragedy. But if you want to discuss something, try at less to be up-to-date with the FACTS and do not throw simplistic sentences like 'swiss were nazis bankers'. It reminds me of some american networks like CNN or Fox News that throw away 'some people say' all day long...

Hmmm, did I say I was proud to be swiss ? Not really...

Hitler was not stoped by the US . By the time the US army came in he had already lost. His own arrogance, the Russian winter, and the Russian army did the most damage. It is great the US steped in but it was not to free Europe from Hitler but to keep Russia from taking over. Just a small History note that is ignored quite a bit.
The US is a great country I will agree. But there are also many great countires arround. They just dont do everything the same way the US does.
The present US government though is doing a lot to destroy what the founding father put in place. No one is taking heed of their warnings. That I find very sad.

What you say is true, but here the difference if that almost everyone told the US government : DON'T DO IT, it will be a mess. But they thought they were more clever than the others...

Tradenut...have you read anything on any of the battles in WWII? Normandy, Battle of the Bulge, there were also a few attacks that weren't successful. So don't try to tell me that the US support was not absolutely critical in the victory in WWII...Russia could not have defeated germany alone, because they were fighting a two front war.

I do not know where you have gotten your info, but if it wasnt our aid in the way of boots, transport trucks, and other supplies that we gave to Britain before we entered, they would have been done. More importantly Russia was on the eastern front. The US went from N Africa to Italy through France. Russia was hugely important, but if Germany was able to focus the bulk of their troops in the east, things would have been very different.
Don't forget that Russia was very close to losing b4 we entered
 
US material support is one thing, but I think that US attitude has made more to win the battle against Nazis. When the US was just 'contemplating' what was happening (don't see anything pejorative here), Nazis could think they were going to win (actually they already had won in a sense). When the US entered this war, it was a signal to them that things wouldn't be that easy and to resistants that a fight was not desparated.

And don't forget that this was a war to defend ourselves and the others, which is not really the case of an agression like Iraq war.

US government has made an error : rush to action.
EU governments have made an error : no rush to diplomacy and action.
Russia and China : cynical attitude.

America's contribution to the WWII was like British contribution in Iraq. Important yes. Measurable yes. But could UK troops alone have defeated Saddam's army. I doubt it. So Russia during WWII was like US now in Iraq. It would have beaten Germany anyway, just would take it longer. Remember, entire USSR was turned into one big war factory where even women and children built tanks and warplanes.
