Ebbers 30 years

Almost all violent crimes (rape, murder, etc) are STATE crimes and subject to the various opinions of the state officials.

Federal crimes are, for the most part, non-violent in nature except kidnapping and harm to public official.

That is one reason to be very careful when borrowing money from bank. Looks innocent but if you lie on any application or loan document that is treated at BANK FRAUD. That is a Federal crime!!!!

Mandatory sentencing is the rule in the Federal system. So 5 counts of security fraud and your ass is going to Fed prison for the minimum which could be 3 years for each count.

I had a friend convicted on "bank fraud" and was sent to Levenworth!! I ask him why didn't he go somewhere around here (Houston) and he said "this is not ClubMed" they don't give you a brochure and ask where you want to go.

Had another friend was sent to Lompoc in S. Calif. No fence but had a lime line, like a football field, but you knew not to ever get close to that line!! All white collar types in this facility. He said he was in best shape since high school. Only did about 18 months.

Lots and LOTS of officials at public companies a crooks. They just don't get caught and since they're well compensated for being crooks and greedy investors demand that they produce better results all the time, they perpetuate the fraud.

Here's an example:

Thousands of construction workers in California have no workers' comp insurance. ALL the big homebuilders KNOW it but pretend not to.

Since their little ''subcontractors'' perform the fraud the big assholes can always claim they ''know nothing about it''.

But when some guy gets his hand cut off from a saw, you never see him again, because he has no insurance and goes quietly to Mexico.

But, go tell this to the investors in these companies or the buyers of the houses and see if they care. No, they're too happy and greedy with their companies and the executives who are making them happy and rich. Until things go wrong.

So, isn't this a case/s of FRAUD? Same thing happening on the illegal immigration front.

fed years aint' calendar years

he will be out in 5-10 max

fed time is country club time imo

golf anyone?

why don't yopu find out what conditions are like even in a minimum federal prision before repeating something you heard on tv?

I agree with many of you guys... putting an otherwise smart businessman away for 30 years costs us even more money in tax dollars

put him to work for the government... pay him next to nothing... but utilize his brains to make the prison system work better or SEC, or any government agency
the penal system is not supposed to be institutionalized slavery.

oh

so slavery behind bars is a far better idea?

sure their paid for .60 an hour

but you are here on this earth one time around and if you have skills that could help in one way or the other... why not utilize it?

Just ask the white collar prisioners... do you want to mop the floor for .60 cents or help us catch others like yourself, also for .60 cents an hours... chances are they would choose the latter.

his baked numbers were used in much of the telco equip buildout

he contributed to the loss of hundered of billions of dollars

this guy wiped out thousands of lifetimes of people's work, he detroyed thousands of retirements

serving the rest of his life wouldnt even begin to pay for what he did

Pro.....

You seem to have no sense of the crime/punishment correlation.

Bingo.

Here lies the largest issue with the Enron and Worldcom frauds - the large number of individuals and companies affected. The economic damage done by the failure of these two companies is enormous, and I'm sorry, but the individuals responsible must pay.

You're really sorry? I'm not. He got, at least, what he deserved. Imagine the families, the hopes and dreams these crooks are destroying.
