Early Canadian election results looking like a Possible Conservative Majority.

Isn't this what ALL socialist want, someone else to pay for it? :)

Quote from Hello:

What Quebec wants is for the rest of Canada to pay for their Socialism. This is why quebec has run up the highest debt/capita in all of Canada. Layton is going to be pandering to quebec and handing out freebies just like the Bloc did, because now he wants to hold onto those seats. With a conservative majority it will be very unlikely he will get his way though. Those 20-50 seats held by the bloc in quebec were holding the rest of Canada hostage to their demands under minority government, because generally speaking you only need another 20-50 seats to get the votes through, so politicians always knew if they threw in enough goodies for Quebec the vote would pass. Atleast with the NDP running Quebec they actually give a crap about the rest of Canada.

I hope the Bloc being gone changes the dynamic and these politicians quit pandering to them and giving them whatever they want when they bring nothing to the table.

Agreed. Quebecors finally realized that the whole seperation thing isn't going to fly, and isn't in their best interest. They still like the socialism idea, however. I guess we just have to be thankful that Harper got the majority and won't have to cater to Quebec's panhandling for at least four years.

The thing is, if voters see Layton just pandering to Quebec he will lose his voters in the other areas of the country. So it will change things a lot even without a majority, since Quebec will now be controlled by someone who cares about other people besides just Quebec. The bloc was in there for the sole purpose of getting things for Quebec and they had no regard for the rest of Canada.

I bet he sure wishes he could have a mulligan on calling for that election. :D

I am still actually happier to see duceppe and the bloc decimated than the liberals though.

Ya same. Very happy to see the Bloc go down. I expected NDP strength but damn did they ever kill it. Three times as many seats as they won last election. Layton doesn't even KNOW many of the candidates that won in Quebec because they weren't expected to do anything. One NDP candidate who won in Quebec doesn't speak french, and spent part of the campaign in Las Vegas LOL. Just goes to show the strangeness that is Quebec politics.

I would have liked to see more balanced power between the Liberals and NDP though.

Indeed. It's heartening to see the bloq destroyed. I support the right of self-determination, but rather have a united canada. seems quebecors have come to their senses.

The Block was supposed to be a temporary part anyway. Quebecers, who in general lean left, thought the best substitute for BQ is the NDP. In my opinion, the biggest winner was the NDP. Also, I really believe the Liberal party is in danger of splitting whereby the Center right will be going to the Conservatives with a small c in their mind, and the others heading for the NDP.

My disappointment is the 19 seats scooped by the conservatives in the GTA area. WTF! Ontario was historically Liberal federally.

The LA candidate was a classic! She didn't even bother! :D

Yeah i heard the story about that woman winning, goes to show you how little some of these voters in Quebec know. I think that the womans biggest advantage was probably actually the fact that she campaigned very little. I think that if the majority of people in her riding had known she doesnt even speak french there is no way in hell she would have gotten elected, she simply got elected on the NDP momentum.

Nahhh the biggest winner was clearly Harper, and the rest of Canada won huge getting rid of the Bloc. The NDP will be in tough when a strong liberal comes in again because most of the NDP votes were simply liberals abandoning Ignatieff's sinking ship.
