Early Canadian election results looking like a Possible Conservative Majority.

Yea, but look how far left voters went. the ndp picked up a shit load of seats. more than the liberals in the last election. seems a big minority of Canadians want hardcore socialism
For the most part that was only because Ignatieff was such a douchebag. It was alot of Liberal votes jumping ship to vote NDP.
It actually bodes well for the conservative party in the future, cause once the liberals get a strong leader again then the NDP and the liberals will be going toe to toe and splitting the vote. Leaving the conservatives on easy street.
I cant see the NDP ever becoming strong enough to actually govern so im not very worried about them.

Yes but they picked up most of their seats in Quebec. It's Quebec that seems to want the hardcore socialism. If you look at the results from anything west of Ontario they all chose Conservative.
I'm surprised that even a lot of the minority/immigrant ridings in the GTA even chose Conservative. It seems that Canada is ready for smaller government and less nanny state hand-holding. Good on us.
This is true. Many Liberal supporters hate Iggy and wouldn't vote for him, but they don't like Harper and the Conservatives either, so the only other option was NDP.
As for the vote-split on the left happening again, I'm not counting my chickens before they hatch. A lot of speculation going around right now about an NDP/Liberal party merger in the future. Bob Rae (former NDP turned Liberal), who is considered a front-runner for the Liberal party leadership, has hinted at a merger. All speculation at this point, but given the drubbing the Liberals got last night it wouldn't surprise me.
What Quebec wants is for the rest of Canada to pay for their Socialism. This is why quebec has run up the highest debt/capita in all of Canada. Layton is going to be pandering to quebec and handing out freebies just like the Bloc did, because now he wants to hold onto those seats. With a conservative majority it will be very unlikely he will get his way though. Those 20-50 seats held by the bloc in quebec were holding the rest of Canada hostage to their demands under minority government, because generally speaking you only need another 20-50 seats to get the votes through, so politicians always knew if they threw in enough goodies for Quebec the vote would pass. Atleast with the NDP running Quebec they actually give a crap about the rest of Canada.
I hope the Bloc being gone changes the dynamic and these politicians quit pandering to them and giving them whatever they want when they bring nothing to the table.
