welcome to New Dubai!

cheers all!

can you get good deals for a house there? or is it priced similarly to houses in nice neighborhoods in the U.S.?

also, when you buy a house there, do you own the piece of land too or do you just have a lease that expires after you die?

I'm currently living in Doha, Qatar.... another boomtown in the region. Any traders out there living in the Gulf region? US Markets open at 4:30PM... nice time to trade the open then head out for supper. Also looking for opportunities to trade the regional exchanges. Lot's of volatility recently.

fun but... i don't think thats representative of dubai / the emirates...

qatar's another interesting place... they'll host the asian games this year... loads happening in the gulf / gcc area...

When I think of Dubai: Congress Letter

Dubai, which owns and controls the acquiring company in this case, has been named as a key transfer point for illegal shipments of nuclear components to Iran, North Korea and Lybia..."

"According to the Congressional Research Service, many U.S. officials believed that al Qaeda activists have spent time in the UAE. In fact, two of the 9/11 hijackers were UAE nationals (Fayez Banihammad and Marwan al-Shehhi), and the Federal Bureau of Investigation claimed the money used for the attacks was transferred to the 9/11 hijackers primarily through the UAE's banking system. Furthermore, after the 9/11 attacks, your department complained of a lack of cooperation by the UAE and other Arab countries as the U.S. was trying to track down Osama bin Laden's bank accounts."

A totally legit area of the world.
