Dual monitors from a notebook

Quote from Bullverine:

I have the same problem I am attempting to connect two external monitors to my laptop. What I have done is obtained a VGA splitter that allows me to connect two external VGA devices to a single VGA port on my laptop. What has happened is exactly what I thought would happen (but hoped it would not), both external monitors are showing the same picture. My laptop screen is screen 1 and my first and second external monitors are screen 2 .
.....
There usually is only one external VGA outlet on your laptop (if it has one). Whatever gadget you hook up to this VGA port there will be only 1 set of display image no matter how many splitters you have.

If you want 3 different screen displays generated by your laptop, most likely your solution can only be those USB-VGA kind of device. (Or some uses PCMCIA I think). As discussed upthread.

Mentioned earlier and definitely works perfectly. I have used the Matrox dual head model with an hp laptop for years and it does exactly what it is intended to do. Two external monitors displaying different content.
Very small and light.
sells for around $130.

Then I think I will give this a try...

or this

P.S.

Do you think something like this will work? Or is this device only useful if the laptop does not have any VGA ports to begin with?

Looks like this one will work.

This is only a splitter. Something like what you already have. Two monitors displaying the same image from the same VGA port.

This is only a cable.

The street price for those USB-VGA gadgets should be about USD$60 to $80. I bought 2 different makes (Diamond and SVGA) at about $75 each.

Matrox unit is best combination of price/value. You screw around with something that costs $39.99, you're almost always going to get what you paid for.

Sorry I got mixed up. The 2 USB-VGA gadgets that I bought are:

1. Diamond BVU160 USB Display Adapter
2. IOGear GUC2020DW6 USB to DVI External Video Card

But... maybe it's only me, I don't know... I have very bad experience with this set up. I have 2 makes for the USB-VGA adapter - IOGear and Diamond. They both have the same issue. The display on the third monitor would "refresh" (flicker) about once a second. Or once every 2-3 seconds. Constantly. That makes it very annoying. The screen goes completely dark for about half a second, then gets populated with the new image. The process repeats.

Perhaps... try it out. And return the adapter if it doesn't work.

Replying on my own post.

A chance discover... this image flickering issue was just me.

More precisely it's with a particular laptop. For some reason, this flickering issue persisted on the original laptop that I used. Recently I switched to a second laptop and tried the USB-VGA adapter. It works without any problem. The image on the third monitor is very stable. There must be something wrong with the USB port(s) on my first laptop.

My question is if I run a charting program and a separate trading execution platform, will I loose performance using this Matrox DualHead2Go.

My current laptop specs are Intel Core 2Duo @ 2.26GHZ, 220HD, 4GB RAM and 32Bit Operating System.
