True you can bypass the router -- but if you're running an automated system it's an issue.

I've tried several solutions and this was best for me. 45 second failover. You can always use the modem directly if the router fails and of course you should always have another method of closing or hedging your trades (wireless phone etc.)
I had to tinker abit to get things right but once set it just runs and 45 seconds of downtime
unless you're really unlucky is not bad especially if you have your stops at the exchange level.
