The reason the chart looks like this is because the delayed data we currently have in the system is actually 5 minute snaps as opposed to full delayed data. It will look right with real time authorizations (see attached).

As for the Price/Volume histogram, if you can clarify a bit what exactly you are looking for, I am pretty sure I can create it for you. You can do a histogram, and you can create formulas. We are a bit shy on the formula documentation currently, but I am working on getting that beefed up.

As for the Volume Histogram, it would look something like this:

Except, the one i'm talking about is actually plotted on top of the price, but even then, something like this in ProphetX would be appreciated.

Hopefully would have an option to be able to select how many days it accounts for the volume on price.

I (and many people) use it for locating support/resistance levels based on volume. I'm sure you probably have seen something like this before. I believe stockcharts.com has something like this as well. I know ensign has it as well.

It's almost impossible for me to run something like that in eSignal without it coming to a crawl.

Hopefully a study like this could be implemented.


EDIT: BTW, the chart you attached is actually a Daily chart.

Sure enough! I edited that post and it is now a 5 minute chart attached.

As you are playing around, notice that you can quickly change the interval of a chart by typing things such as ,5 to change to 5 minute.

We will be making more demo videos in the near future to show some of the more advanced chart elements, shortcuts, etc.

In the mean time, you can download the quick reference guide that shows some of the main features and how to access them. I have attached it to this post.

I will have our development group take a look at the volume histogram and get it slated for a future release...

Hopefuly I can clarify:

1) All DTN products get their data from DTN's ticker plant at its highest level. DTN.IQ is our client software that uses IQFeed for its data. Thus, DTN.IQ isn't a datafeed.

2) IQFeed runs off our IQ server system, which gets its data from the DTN ticker plant. The IQ server system is completely separate from the ProphetX server system, which also gets its data from the DTN ticker plant.

3) There are API's available for institutional use with a local server installation of ProphetX. We don't have API's available for the Internet fed version of ProphetX at this time.

1,2,3) There IS an API to receive the underlying data of our end user quote products (IQFeed, DTN.IQ, ProphetX, etc). It is called NxCore. This feeds data directly from our ticker plant (full broadcast of all symbols), over the internet, for use by Hedge Funds, black box systems, brokers, traders who need a full raw feed, etc. It is not a retail feed that has value adds such as historical databases, news, etc. You get the raw data in real time. Pricing for this feed starts at $500/mo.

Those are good responses and actually answers some questions that I had.

But I must be overcomplicating my question. All I am interested in is what product has an API that delivers unlimited symbols over the Internet.

I understand that DTN.IQ and ProphetX are not feeds but standalone products that use a feed. The reason I asked about DTN.IQ and ProphetX was to understand if the quality of the feed that underlies those programs is superior to or identical to that disseminated through the IQFeed API/feed.

If I understand you correctly, they all use identical feeds at a higher level (IQFeed feeds each of DTN.IQ and ProphetX and IQFeed API clients, which in turn is fed by the ticker plant?), and in all three products the end user is logged into identical servers ("indentical servers" meaning the servers have identical horsepower, and the subscription to each server is the same from the perspective of the demand put on that server in each of the three products offerings) to get the data either to API clients (IQFeed), or to your own front end programs, DTN.IQ and ProphetX.

So to summarize in simple terms, if I want the highest quality unlimited data symbols with an API without spending $500/M for the NxCore product, what is the name of that product?

The only Internet full broadcast feed we have is NxCore. We do have individuals using it, but the pricing sounds like it isn't in your range. You can also use our satellite broadcast feed which would be about $175 per month. However, the SDK is very complex and not worth the trouble for most individuals.

We had a small issue last night with the Video Demo (www.dtniq.com/pxdemo.cfm) which was causing problems for some users who used the Internet Explorer browser to view it. The problem has been corrected and the video should now play in IE.

1) For additional ideas on what features traders are looking for, your programmers should take a look at Medved's QuoteTracker software. QT sums up a trader's wish list pretty well.

2) You guys should consider the idea of abolishing that 'activation fee'. I think that fee puts you at a serious disadvantage since others (eSignal, TradeStation) do not impose similar charges. Besides, it is difficult to justify this charge just for processing a subscription.

1) We are partners with QuoteTracker, and very much like their product. We plan to continue being the preferred data vendor for them and their customers.

2) This fee isn't just there to process a subscription. While many companies out there do just that, we provide a personal touch with our customers and work with them during the trial (and beyond) to ensure they understand how to use the product. We also offer a true trial with no up-front fees (other than exchange fees for real time data). You have a chance to try it out before DTN makes any money.

In the end, for comparable service, you would break even within a couple months vs another product. Then, you are saving money from there on out.
