I don't do drugs anymore either. Haven't since the 70's, but that isn't the point. Once you open the door you're asking for trouble. Uncle Sam wants more control of our lives, not less. I don't see how anyone can call themselves a smaller government libertarian, and support drug testing for welfare, employment or anything else. There are more effective ways to control who is scamming the system, but those ideas won't provide the knee jerk, dog whistle politics we currently have in place. Good government requires more thought, effort, and yes money, than we as a nation are willing to put into it.
would you want the guy flying the plane that is flying a family member tested? how about the doctor who is about to operate on you? how about the guard that is guarding the exchange from terrorist activity?Quote from cgroupman:
+1 - yep, that pretty much sums it up. The proverbial slippery slope. More like an inquisition if you see gov't sticking needles into our bodies or taking urine samples.
I don't do drugs either, but I like a drink now and then, are they going to test me for booze if I want to enter the trading floor? If they did, we would have no one on the NYSE exchange working.

TALLAHASSEE --
Since the state began testing welfare applicants for drugs in July, about 2 percent have tested positive, preliminary data shows.
Ninety-six percent proved to be drug free -- leaving the state on the hook to reimburse the cost of their tests. [/B]
