No. It wouldn't. They might be reduced some. We all want low taxes.

Maybe what we have here is a problem with inadequate access to psychiatric health care. Just saying... I mean I'm looking at these media reports quoted here and the posts of some of my ET colleagues and thinking we probably could do with a bit more emphasis on mental health...

If this is true, then there are myriad, untold, (vast majority?) of cops walking around with a gun strapped to their hip...while at the same time suffering from work-related psychological devastation.

Now, should an officer's work-related mental health issues be the problem of people like Philando Castile, who was not violent scum?

So we need a new system of policing, how to deal with higher than average mental health issues that are work related, where guns are strapped to the hips of the mentally ill.

I would suggest a 20 hour work week, instead of 40 or more.

But then, who could afford to keep the job? There must be some other, less stressful job an officer can handle for the other 20 hours s/he needs to make financial ends meet.

I also suggest an overhaul of the accountability system...a closer link to the people...more oversight. People are seething, feeling they are not getting justice relative to mentally ill officers who are shooting first and asking questions later. Too often, the bad apples continue to collect a paycheck.

Apparently, they rarely punish mentally ill officers, creating a whole other class of citizens above laws that apply to everyone else. At the very least, i suggest that any officer involved in a fatality be warned, from basic training onward, that regardless the officer is justified or not, a fatality will end the career of the officer.

I believe officers fire first in response to FEAR more than hate of a race ("racism"). I'm getting a little tired of hearing how fear for one's life justifies all actions an officer may take. People who are afraid, and likely to be mentally ill, should not be out there with guns more than 20 hours a week. People with wives at home, kids at home? These are the most likely to be FEARFUL, and so, more likely to be mentally devastated...and so, the most dangerous to the general public.
 
I want to go over the facts of the case of the Minnesota shooting against Philando Castile, who had a concealed carry permit and no record. As i understand the facts:

They were pulled over, presumably for a broken tail-light, that turned out not to be broken.

The encounter started, for some reason, with everybody's hands up.

I have not yet heard for sure whether the officer had his gun draw at this point.

It sounds like the officer had his gun pulled at the start of the encounter, while everyone has their hands up.

The driver has a concealed carry permit, but forgets the protocol about telling the officer first off, while hands are up or on the wheel.

The officer, also, neglects or forgets to ask if anyone has a concealed carry.

Instead, the officer tells the driver to get his ID and registration.

The driver is reaching for his ID when he remembers he is supposed to tell the officer he is a conceal carrier.

It get's a little foggy here.

The driver tries to return his hands to the hands up position to show he has no weapon.

Before the driver can show he has no weapon, before his hands can be seen again, the officer unloads FIVE SHOTS on him.

It happens so fast, it does appear the officer had his gun drawn already, from near the beginning of the encounter.

If the officer was holstered, probably everyone would be alive today.

Anyway, while the man is bleeding, the officer continues to point his gun, point blank, at the driver.

There is no attempt to stem the bleeding or perform any kind of medical attention.

The passenger decides to start live-streaming all this to Facebook, as the officer is still pointing his gun at the dying driver who is losing consciousness.

Have i missed any facts?
 
Never mind my last post, i started a new thread dedicated to that subject.


This thread is about a retaliation shooting that happened in Dallas.

I've read every post in this thread and notice people seem not to be operating with all the facts updated.

As of this day, the facts seem to be this:


The shooter acted alone.

The shooter may or may not have had high elevation.

Probably not, because the shooter was on the ground very soon after it started.

The shooter did not affiliate with any group.

That is, much of what we know about the shooter was disclosed by the shooter in a 45 minutes long stand off with the police.

The shooter was upset with the recent police shootings and was retaliating.

Can anybody definitely disagree with these facts?
