CHICAGO, March 13—The Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) today announced that a new daily volume record was set for mini-sized Dow Jones futures with 43,416 contracts traded on March 12, breaking the previous record of 36,083 contracts set on February 14, 2003
 
It's just a matter of when the institutions decide to get involved in this contract when we will see the number go from 5 digits to 6 imo.........then it should be good. (I think this is a pretty obvious statement, I am just thinking out loud)...then I'll get to add cbot/ace to my X .....fun fun.
 
You're right, volume was lighter than normal in YMH3 because of rollover.

In fact dow futures volume is picking up. Checking on volume info at CBOT :

CHICAGO, March 13—The Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) today announced that a new daily volume record was set for mini-sized DowSM Jones futures with 43,416 contracts traded on March 12, breaking the previous record of 36,083 contracts set on February 14, 2003.

Additionally, mini-sized Dow Jones futures posted an open interest record of 27,607, surpassing the previous record of 25,024 contracts outstanding on March 11, 2003.
