Dow 450 points of lows and surging ..August 16th 2007 again

Quote from nonlinear5:

The entire concept of "stocks go up over long haul" needs to be questioned.

Are you serious? I'm not a bull either, but I don't understand how anyone can make that statement.

Stocks are profit instruments. By design, they do go up over the long haul. Otherwise, the Dow wouldn't even be at 9400 today. It'd be hovering around the same levels it was at during the depression.

Stock_trad3r,

Did you even read the article. Ebay is laying off over 1000 people. By the way, I thought you promised to go for good once the S&P fell below 1252.

The current bear market is like 1987 again. or the 1998 bear market. A ton of selling for no good reason.

I've been bullish when the dow was at 14,000 last year and I haven't changed my stance on anything in spite the markets being 30% lower because the fundamentals haven't changed.

Those who bought RIMM at 140 this year should not be concerned. They will earn excess returns despite buying at the top given enough time. Same for those who bought AAPL at 200.

So its like 1987? Gee did the government spend $5 Trillion bailing out anyone like Fannie Mae? Did they give the automakers $25 Billion? Did they put $900 billion in liquidity in the system? Did they put up $700 billion to buy bad debt? Did they back the takeover of a wall street firm? How about giving 80 billion to an insurance company? Did they do that?

1987 was the equivalent of missing your favorite tv show compared to now.
