If it was not for a lawsuit, these cops would never face any punishment of substance for being thugs with a license. I dont care if it is just 5% of the force, when the other 95% do nothing it means it is time for the police to be drained and filled with better trained and less racist officers.

A black high schooler was arrested in Texas last week for walking home in the middle of a street during a snowstorm as he attempted to avoid ice-covered sidewalks.

Rodney Reese, 18, was arrested at 10:45pm on February 16, in Plano, and charged with being a pedestrian in the roadway. Police said officers received a call about a black man seen stumbling along in the middle of the snowy street wearing a short-sleeved shirt and were sent to perform a wellness check.

The Plano Police Department released body camera footage of their encounter with Reese on Facebook on Friday. In the video, police are seen approaching Reese and repeatedly asking him where he is going and if he’s okay, to which he replies that his is fine and on his way home. They continue to follow him for two minutes and 17 seconds, before arresting him in an alleyway.

The charges against Reese were later dropped by Plano Police Chief Ed Drain, who said the arrest wasn't consistent with why officers were called to investigate in the first place.

The beginning of the video shows Leroy Kennedy flailing his arms, so it's hard to tell what was going on (e.g., what drugs was he high on). The police could have been more gentile though.

Indeed.If Dems don't do something about this before 2022 they probably wont get the minority turnout they need in 2022 and 24.
 
What troubles me is the "we're concerned for you" then wailing on him. Dude said I live close by and am on my way home from work. But no we gotta detain you here in the snow in your t-shirt. Yeah this one pissed me off too.
 
Its about how cops approach the first part of an encounter. That is what needs changing.

If you are in your car they cannot (in theory and law) pull you over because they see your are black. There has to be a traffic infraction, or evidence of impairment or a taillight out or something. Something about probable cause.

Why is it that walking is treated differently? A pedestrian loses that right-to-anonymity because they aren't in a car? Being a pedestrian means you must present ID without probable cause?

Change that shit. Change the ROE of the cops.

For a few seasons I worked at a ski resort and would take the shuttle bus up in the morning. The bus stop was a few blocks away so I had to slog through deep snow to get there and the middle of the street was the easiest place to slog through at 5 AM on snowy mornings.

Agreed. I am currently taking my runs in the middle of the street for the same reason.

This is the main issue... police feel they have any justification to approach citizens and we are supposed to comply or suddenly we are resisting arrest and then eligible for an ass beating..especially if Black. Police don't have absolute authority or rights and when they do shit like this they are never punished unless video evidence is made public which is only RECENTLY.

Con Law is clear on what they can and cannot do but as soon as a police officer engages and you raise a hand or dont obey immediately.....then it is "he was resisting arrest" or "his hand moved and I thought I was in danger" But then I have seen white guys hit cops and get softly arrested.

Fire all the bad cops for once and offer incentives for new recruits and give them better training. The bullshit they get now and then handed a gun and a badge and sent out in the streets is pure government negligence.
