Don's Openings, Part 5

There all in cents. .24 = 24 cents, I was just reading off the roster and typing in the results. Nine happy, 3 had a rough day, and a couple had no fills today.....

I'm beginning to wonder if I want to keep doing this.....where is Arthur Anderson when you need some help?? Oh, yeah, in jail....

Hope that clears up the misdirection which may be minterpreted by the misinformed. Of course those numbers are exclusive of commissions.

Thank you for the advice of just bail out when HRB looks like it is tanking.

Please take a look at todays charts on HRB. I took your advice. It looked to be tanking AGAIN.. :eek: so I bailed quickly.

THEN the evil thing immediately reversed and ran way up...

Actually I did say " OH S***, NOT AGAIN" when I got filled on HRB and it went down Immediately. I didn't need any coaxing to get gone from it...

4 Fills today, and I canceled early leaving FDC before it WOULD have filled short. (and would have given me a scare if I didn't panic out. Would have had to sit through a .40 wiggle, and these days, I am wiggle wary )

Had a ton of longs that would have filled but were taken off due to news. A couple would have been huge disasters like HRB yesterday, most would have been failures right away, and a few would have worked out ok. BUT... I am glad I didn't have to deal with any of them.

Long HRB -.30

Long APA +.30

Long LOW +.49 (some of the fabled price improvement)

Short KRB +.30 (left too much on the table here)

7 longs, 5 shorts. 6 wins, 5 losses, 1 scratch. $1.11 before commissions.

The only bad loser was ONE short, pretty bad slippage on that market order, but I expected it. Bailed on the shorts at the right time and let the longs run a bit.
 
Lescor...you are the MAN on the OO, what are you doing, I'd pay to sit next to you and see what your doing, is it as simple as what Don is laying out here, are you using "mixed" envelopes (i.e. .08 on the short side, 1.0 on the long)? Do you use slingshots? You seam to be racking up some impressive returns.

Of course if you wasn't to keep your secrets to yourself I could understand that as well....but I'm impressed.

why you are making good numbers i would like to see which stocks your filled on ./// its alot eaiser to post big numbers then to back up results... and see if you sat in them all fricking day... other then that ... great job... =) i was only +.18 cents today. and i could have got a lot more.
 
I'll tell ya, these last 5 weeks have been smokin' for me on the openings. I've been through the valley of darkness before and I'm sure I'll visit it again, but in the mean time I'm makin' all the hay I can.

I've outlined my basic methodology for the openings a few times in these threads, but to recap: I always use 1% envelope on both sides. I don't trade stocks that are in the news. I don't trade them, or reduce the size, if the stock has recently broken major support or resistance on a volume surge. I scale out of positons. I use a slingshot order of 10-15 cents for about 1/4 of my position. I keep very detailed records. I adjust share size based on price and volatility. I don't look at opening indications. I will dump all longs or shorts based on what the S&P futures are doing regardless of the tape in the stocks. I am out of all trades no later than 10:00 est. I don't sit through big drawdowns.

I am not really into sharing my stocks because some of them are kinda thin. But today's fills were mostly big guys, so I'll spill the beans on my trades.

I noticed there was some news on HRB that didn't come out until around 2:00pm on the day he gapped it down on the open and then tanked it further. (I think it was the 9th)
Some broker started their coverage on HRB with a sell rating, and also mentioned some other bad forecasts.
So this may be a case where the info was leaked out earlier in the day and the insiders were already selling. As usual, we are always the last to know.
Tough break on that opening... there's no way we can guard against that cr@p !!

Also noticed that the volume was about 5 times the daily average in the morning.
