Don's openings Part 4

hmm...strange. I have never seen a long OPG on IB not fill if the open was below the limit....occasionally I have noticed some shorts that were questionable. I send mine as SMART/OPG now...and IB changes the dest. to NYSE automatically. We originally had to select the NYSE as the routing option directly.

unfortunately today I had blocked C from being sent..otherwise I coulda let you know if I got a fill. My limit buy was close to yours had I sent the order.

cas,

I did it the same way. Sent as SMART and they get routed to NYSE upon transmit.

Re the shorts: I've always thought than when I didn't get a short fill it was because the stock didn't close on an up-tick. So I've never paid much attention to not getting short fills.

Doesn't the stock have to open on an uptick for you to get filled short?

Are you saying that if ABC closes @ 50, and that was an uptick, you could get filled short @ 49 on the open?

Yes, I believe your order has to be at least 50 though,
not 49, but you can get filled Short

daniel,

Seems like you should be right  For some reason I seem to recall that it's the closing tick that matters, even though your view makes more sense.

My recollection of the rules is that it works like there was never a close in the market. Thus no one can be filled on a short of the opening if the price is lower than the close. You could still sell stock on the opening if you happened to be long. The opening price must be equal to or greater than the close to be filled short for an OPG. At least that is my understanding. But then, what do I know. :)

I put an opening order in to buy C on IB and my execution was at $34.30. I checked my execution and it is timed at 9:31:20 A.M. I also put in a trailing stop and was stopped out at a loss at 9:33:02 A.M.

I had my open order at IB to buy C at $35.75 and did not get a fill. I check all my opening order for 8/21/2 and i should of had a fill on PFE and SBC but gone none. I did get a fill on HD so some orders did go through.

This really make me wonder what is going on and why. anyone with ideas i would really appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks

We need to chat about the opening orders, wherever you're placing them....give me some specifics about your price, and the opening price, including when you placed them. I have *never* not gotten filled when my bid is above the opening price.

Now to today, 8/22. Nothing done....too bad, we had a good group visiting our Denver office today.....we'll be doing it again tomorrow in Denver.

Don't forget Saturday, for any Denver traders to join us ....

Don
