what is the difference between a grey box and a black box?

The color of the box! :D

Smart ass answer aside, grey boxes require more user intervention. Typically, I find that some strategies perform better when I get involved in some of the trades. It's neither completely discretionary, nor is it completely automated, and so the term "grey" box was coined.

1. "Take half off with small profit, tape read to increase profits" is exactly what I teach new people...the amount of $$ depends on number of stocks and share size of course.

2. MSchey is correct, to make the big money you have to do a little of everything. I can attest to his expertise and profits, he does very well.

All the best,

Don

I can add some insight as to what is working.....everything else I am doing. Pairs, Overnights, Automation, grey and black box strategies...mean reversion and breakout. I am making "MAD Money" with those, and that's where I am concentrating my efforts.

As to the other question, I have a list of regular stocks, I have always experimented with new stocks....part of the constant R&D that is required to stay on top your game.

Reagarding mean reversion and breakouts, are you talking about volatilty?

9 fills / 14000 shares

8 long / 1 short / -4490.00

- 1.1 / + .4%

lost money on the short and couldn't get out fast enough on the longs...

should have been close to a scratch but i got hopeful...just a little more to breakeven...they tanked...then i froze...

my own worst enemy...time for a break...

Ugh. And you were having a great week too. You'll get it back.

I do play VOL breakouts....not sure what you mean by VOL mean reversion, if you can give me an example, I can give you a better answer.

Like the when the shorter term volatility is say, 30 and the longer term vol is 60.

I have a book on options (Option Volatilty and Pricing) and he talks about how volatility is mean reverting. So if the shorter term vol contracts, look for a breakout.

PS I'm talking about volatility...not volume, just to be clear

I had 5 fills, all long. They were all profitable, but I was trying to hang in longer and let a couple go against me a little. Made about half what I should have.

.50 both sides, only using 400 shares as I am testing a new strategy. So far it is working better than I thought, but I'm not trading it very well. Was up about $240, but ended up only about $100.
