In both cases they traded through my short order with the opening print. I know that shorts are the lowest priority, but I should have been filled if I offered a better price than the opening print. The order was in prior to 9:28, so that wasn't an issue.

They may not have traded through. Since you can't short on a downtick, the specialist considers your order entered at the lowest uptick price. Did the open trade through that?

in the case of GPS the stock opened well below yesterdays close... it doesn't matter what price you put in, it's going to be re-priced... (so there won't be an illegal short...) ever noticed those enormous offers on the NYOB in the morning? Those orders are all re-priced...

at least on UPS there was a chance you could have been filled at the opening price...

mnx

Sorry, should have looked at your stocks.

GPS: opened on a flat tick, but closed Monday on a downtick. No fill for you.

EDIT:
UPS: opened up 1 tick. There's no way it could have traded through you. "Orders ahead" excuse sticks.

Both opened a penny above the prior close, so it makes sense now that I didn't get filled. I didn't look at the price closely enough until I read your post, I just noted that they opened up and through my offer. I feel less irritated now, thanks Shreddog.

Can you cut and paste your order for me, and let me know who you clear with, I canhave both orders checked by Goldman for you.

Don

Thanks, Don. I sent the info to your PM box. They'll probably get the same answer but anything is worth a try.

b/e on 1000 short mer

hpq 500 shares +.26 and I'm just going to try and hang on to the other 500 with a stop at 32.88, so I should be up at least $250 or so.

moving stop up to 33.29, just below a big buy order. let's see how bad they kill me if I get stopped out. :)

worst case, I should still be up $450 or so.
