FCX Short Loser lost like 500 bones on 1000 shares.... Found some good action on that stock and finished up 1200 on it...

Vlo 800 shares +63
GLW 2000shares +37
CCU 1000 shares +92
NEM 1000 shares +42
Xto 200 shares +7

NEM was also giving me trouble, I managed to get out of my short the third time it cam near the opening price after ripping 20 cents.... yeesh!

So OPG's were terrible for me today but I ended up having fun on FCX so I guess it's the end result that counts...

where do you get the beta value?

i've found different beta site to site, beta of TWX in NYSE.com is 0.86 but MSN.com is 2.14

what a huge gap

which number do you apply to your spreadsheet?

Got a bit stuck this morning....evidently I didn't set the "stop loss" correctly and MRK got me. 2 winners, 1 loser, -$200.

I will set stops correctly, and add more stocks.

That is quite a difference. Maybe they use different timeframes in their calculations, although the 2.14 number seems incorrect.

I pull beta from a subscription service (Daily Graphs Online) that updates it weekly.

MRK was upgraded by mogan stanley, and gap up, what do you guys handle the news? i put my order as usual short @ 31.07, even though it's trading 32.2x pre market.

maybe next time i will ignore the stocks that have news

OK, I'll start a new thread today, for 2006. We'll see how things go.

The Steelers close out the regular season on Sunday, don't miss it. Hopefully a playoff berth will be already clinched by then, if our friends in San Diego can help us out.
