Don's openings and more for 2005

happy monday....

3 fills / 3 long +152.00

blocked insurers and oil related issues...13 total out of 94

traded scared and ran stops too tight...

-1.1 / + .4 %

still smarting from being stupid on wednesday...

quotes were all screwy this am.. had to trade using dollar amounts on hedged positions...

8 fills +477 net. Loser last Friday though. Still 2 steps forward, 1 step back.

Screwy CAES quotes definitely cost me a few bucks on my exits. It was causing problems with IB's Smart routing.

1 long, 1 short on a small test position, both winners +210

Got a penny of price improvement on exit, and then the next print was 10 cents better. Thanks for the table scrap, Mr. Specialist...

7 fills (only 1 big winner and others are small winner between 12- 90USD) for about 400 net.

Oil stocks are interesting today, nearly all gapped up but some would make nice OPG plays while others would keep going up before turning (which in my case would bie big whck to my PnL). I chose not to participate today. Usually they all move in tandem.

SHreddog, what is CAES? I definitely noticed bad quotes on Times and Sales and L1 quote both on my Esignal and execution platform. Only 1 side is accurate e.g. bid*ask 51 * 49.50 In this case the bid side is correct and ask price was always bad. It still happens till now. Anybody else has these bad quote problems?
Thanks

CAES is the Nasdaq's order execution system for NYSE stocks. I'm sure Don or someone could give a lot better detail than me. Basically they were all stale and messing up IB's routing.

I'm curious as to why you would bother with naz quotes for nyse stocks. I did have a conference call with a couple of guys from the nasdaq, explaining all the new stuff...but the way we're set up it would cost more to route that way.

Anyway, up only $220 today...I, too, was a bit too chicken...bailed out of HPQ waaaay tooo soon.

Don:)

I get a quote from NYSE only and a composite. CAES is another routing option and IB includes it. Usually it works well and there's often decent liquidity on it. It's no different than hitting ISLD or ARCA. Why not hit it if it's there and firm and you want out?

The reason that I wouldn't use another routing is that I like the price improvements that I get on the NYSE on my exit orders. When I stop getting bettr pricing, then I will be likely sending orders anywhere.

Today $300.
