I am interested too if anybody can give some basic explantation on the mechanics. From what I herad, it used to be working well but in the past few years (as all otheer strategies are) , MOC trades has been getting less and less profitable. And I havent found any thread on this subject yet.
Don, if you do this on regular basis, why not doing the journal on this subject also? Or does it involve more secret techniques?

Here are the Basics:

20 mins before close, you'll see the first imbalance.
If the imbalance is > X% of the avg. daily volume,
then you have a possible imbalance play.

10 mins before close, if you see the imbalance still up/down,
buy or short in direction of imbalance and use a MOC
against the imbalance to exit the position.

take into consideration the chart if the stock already moved
in direction of imbalance before the imbalance reducing
its effectiveness.

the specialist may print the stock many cents above or
below the last tick for the closing print on big imbalances.

note: imbalances plays are much more rare now because
institutions are better at buying or selling ahead of time
instead of waiting till the last day to fill their orders.
 
Decent Monday....I'm finally feeling better, I've been miserable for 3 weeks....anyway, 2 fills up $405 this morning.

Terrible day. Checked out DOW, NSM, FCS on the short side. 20 c just went away against short psotions and no chance whatsoever to cover .
 
Got bitten by IBM yesterday (net down $600, but then I traded it and made a net down of $1300, LOL).

Today up $300, back to normal.
