DOM trading on a 42 - 46" screen instead of 4 monitors

Hi there.

I want to change my four 21.5" monitors for a one big screen on which I could fit in all my ladders and charts, without having the gap between monitors.

The questions are:
1. My current monitors have a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080. Do I need a 4K monitor, or can I simply have a let's say 44" monitor with the same resolution, in order to fit in all the DOM and charts on one monitor? I use a CQG platform and DOM seems to be dynamically adjustable, when changing it's size, so it seems to me that higher resolution is not necessary, is it?
2. I want to use it only for trading, so it has to be funcional for work specifically. It will be turned on for 11-14h. What should I look for? I undersand that a mat screen is a must for work. I also look for the 16:9 screen ratio. What else? Do you have specific model suggestions? For now I see that iiyama offers mat screens http://www.iiyama.com/gb_en/products/prolite-le4340s-b1/
 
Monitors are higher res with smaller pixels.... expected to be viewed from a short distance.

TVs are same/lower res with bigger pixels.... expected to be viewed from a longer distance.

For the most part, they don't interchange all that well.

Are you new to multi-monitor and the bezels get your attention? If so, just give it a little time. Soon, you won't even notice the bezels in a trading environment.

I'm not an expert but I strongly believe that this will not help you.
If you have a 44" montior with a 1920 x 1080 resolution, you will only be able to see the charts/dom of ONE single monitor that you are using now with a 1920x1080 resolution. This 44" will not display anything more than your current 21", only the picture will be bigger.

So you need a much higher resolution to transfer all your monitors to one.
However due to practical reasons I would advise against using such a really big monitor. You are better off with two or three smaller ones. What about two 27"?
 
I already researched this extensively and for a 40" screen you need to get a 4k monitor. Dont get anything smaller or much bigger than 45. Lg makes some good 40inch 4k screens that are pretty cheap check them on amazon they are less than 1000 dollars and ive seen them as low as 600ish.

They key ratio you are looking for is pixels per square inch. This is why you need a 4k screen on a 40".
 
i used to think one very huge monitor was an interesting idea,
because i saw another trader using one;
but today i would most likely try 2 somewhat larger,
reasonably priced monitors

i currently use 3 monitors with my desktop, while trading,
and just one extra monitor attached to my laptop, aftermarket...

Indeed I will need a higher resolution. The ladders can't be made 4x smaller then the current size I use.

All of you guys seem to agree on the fact that it's not a good idea to have one big screen. The problem is none of you gave any reason why is it so...
I trade fixed income and I have a very specific user case. I want to open about 90 ladders, without having any gaps in between, as it would confuse me, I would see less and be slower.

So I know that I need a 4K monitor.
I wonder if when sitting so close, a curved screen would not be a good idea.

Actually we have. Apparently you just don't want to accept the facts.

A huge screen still has the same number of pixels as small. OTW.. you can't get "more on the screen, only bigger".... unless you go to a 4K display. Then you'll have more pixels and can get more stuff on the screen, but smaller. Your choice.

You probably have a flat screen TV around the house, no? Hook it up to your trading display and soon you'll be able to figure out what works for you.

i saw a [professional] trader using one large monitor,
and it looked interesting,
but i admit i haven't actually tried it...

i guess i'm saying - not now for me, because i'm content with what i have

now,
your particular application may work on a large one, i don't know

someone mentions trying a large TV; that's an idea to see what it looks like

I use a Seiki 39 inch 4k monitor. It works great. You can get it from Newegg for close to $300. Seiki has a new 42 inch 4k that works at 60 hz for $350. Read the reviews all over the internet. Lots of people are using them as monitors. I really love mine. One disadvantage is you can angle in the multiple monitors, but not one large flat monitor. So there is a focusing (your eyes) issue with one large monitor. I keep what I am working on in the middle of the screen. For my monitor 30 hz at 4k a cheap graphics card (under $100) works great. If you are going to play games you will want to get a 60 hz monitor, otherwise, no difference.
