Yeah, and on the "high end", you have Marshalls and TJ Maxx which also warehouse the stuff that other retailers want rid of. Not complaining, as you can find decent clothing, kitchen utensils, other nick nacks at a nice discount.

The one thing I can never figure out nowadays is why on earth do people pay full retail mark-up for clothing when you can go to any number of places that have it for 60-80% off.

The store manager and assistant manager will be making below $30K.
The assistant manager will be making low 20K's and the store manager will be making maybe 26-28K to start.

The fact that they are doing well is simply a testament to how lousy our country is doing. When people are going to Dollar Stores over Wally world that tells you something about the economic condition of the average American shopper.
Lol I had never been in to a Walmart till about three years ago for the first time. Horrible horrible place.....the shoppers there are disgusting white, black, hispanic, low income trash and human debris.

Actually, the country has "been" going to hell for the past 10 years. Tough times call for tight pocketbooks. Character builder. Dollar General could actually capitalize on this if they are smart operators.
The retail landscape in US is overserved and the victors can only come out ahead, as they always have. Wal Mart has seen it's peak.

Well if the average US wage ends up becoming 28K that means you should be able to buy a home for 50-58K and an automobile for about 3-4 grand brand new the future.

The problem is that they halted the the drop of housing prices by putting in an imaginary bottom in the housing market....by adding in all these programs to keep people from going into foreclosure and offering free money to first time house buyers this propped up housing prices, add in trillions in stimulus, QE 1 and 2 and soon 3 and 4 and housing prices are still inflated, housing prices are still 40% overvalued. It was fine when housing prices were jumping 20-30% a year, but as soon as they started to fall they ran right the fuck in to stop prices from falling.

Would be nice to get a 1500 SQF house for $100k or less but thats not happening.

It's not CURRENTLY happening, but the rub of it all might just be that after all the endless rounds of QE, the one thing that they've tried in earnest to save might be the only thing to not inflate along with everything else.

The list of pitfalls with ownership at this stage of the game is too long to list, not the least of which are all the title issues and the continued money grubbing efforts of municipalities to tax the hell out of homeowners instead of cutting back in size.

In a survival mode of existence, should we enter into the hyperinflationary hell that many predict, food will top the list and if need be, I'm certain families will move in together to try and survive. And now that strategic default has become widespread, I sincerely do not see how this leads to higher prices with all the actual supply and hidden supply out there.

also as far as the above discussion and how this all relates to the current status of our economy..... Our country has been going to hell and all that is being created in terms of jobs are shit retail jobs selling cheap crap from china. It;s Sad we are losing manufacturing ability to china and elsewhere around the world, outsourcing IT to India, etc and all we can do is build more strip malls and retail stores.

The man in the white house today looked like he was pretty damn soft on the chinese president. We need leadership that will kick them in the nuts on a variety of issues. Copyright theft, the chinese are stealing and robbing us blind and kicking outr ass every which way. And all we can do is add retail stores to sell their crap.

LOL.....Fly, they carry many of the same name brands you'll find in any store in the United States Of America. I assure you the major companies in the USA aren't practically giving their products away to these big discounters. On some products, perhaps you are correct, but these guys are big business in this country. Don't fool yourself, it ain't a flea market.

That is not right. what you will see is several people living in 1 bedroom apartments just like in China and India and the 1 bedroom apartment will cost you same as a house today because of inflation.

You are incorrect and the previous poster is right. Here is an example, toothpaste.

Walmart or any other retailer won't take your brand name toothpaste unless the expiration is more than a year or even longer. So when you end up with a shitload of such product, it is considered hazardous waste, thus costs another shitload of money just to make it disappear.

So if you give it away for FREE to the Dollar stores or even if you pay a small amount you are better off then paying for the destruction of such product.
And they have plenty of similar products (canned food, dry food) on their shelves....
