Interesting article about Prof. Turley's opinion that what Sessions did was actually very beneficial to Trump and the investigation of Deep State abuses.
In a nutshell, he says the combination of a US Attorney and the DOJ IG will be powerful, as the IG has over 400 investigators and the US Attorney for Utah can impanel a grand jury in Utah if he wants. Moreover, a special counsel can always be appointed later if the need arises.
We'll see. And what about the other FBI/Obama scandals? Will we ever get around to looking into them?
Aside from the right way to structure the investigations, the proper sequencing is absolutely critical. I get a lot of visceral churning from not seeing Sessions take the bull by the horns, but as I said way back- that however much it may piss me off- it is best that you dont give the lefties a chance to make a case that the only reason that an investigation is happening is because Trump is pressuring Sessions. Yes, we know they will do it anyway but it is important to have defenses against that. That whole business of McCabe being fired upon the recommendation of the IG and upon the recommendation of the internal review from the OPR was beautiful. The lefties foam at the mouth about the politics of it but they know that McCabe got dinged by the IG and the career justice department reviewers.
Similarly, I could go to DC and slap the elf's face right now for being worthless, but if it takes a couple more or three months or so for this current arrangement to lead up to the appointment of a special prosecutor, it is a better way to get there because then Sessions is able to say that followed the recommendations of the Ig's report and had appointed someone from outside his office and the beltway to also make recommendations. So you have an internal AG watchdog, and a career FBI guy making recommendations for next steps- not Sessions. Even though they will do it anyway, that does not leave much room for the lefties to argue that this is just Trump making it happen because he is allegedly at war with the FBI. If anything, the risk is that the Huber and Horowitz will soft pedal issues impacting their buddies- but I know that Horowitz is pissed and disgusted so that takes some of the steam out of my shorts on that- plus he already has taken a major scalp so we know he is not afraid to draw blood where needed. Unlike Sessions.
When we discussed this week ago, I said that one thing that I liked with the arrangement is that it builds on the IG's work rather than just kicking the investigation over the wall to an independent and going into secrecy for months to come. But I said that one of the things I did not like was that there was no true prosecutor involved who can investigate people who are no longer or never were Justice Department employees and that the IG did not have grand jury or subpoena power. So the addition of Huber puts a fairly significant blow-out patch, some bondo, and duct tape on the problem- which helps a bit for now.
Bottom line is that even though it is not a perfect arrangement, you are going to need an app on your desktop to follow all the issues that are going be coming out by the pantload over the next three months, and some of those issues will be so powerful that they bring their own logic for the appointment of a special counsel with them. Nevertheless, the swamp will still try to hide some stuff. Problem for them though is that Sara Carter and Judicial Watch and other free press/FOIA activities are on their arse. It's a beautiful thing.
Still not sure what Jeff Sessions does for work though.
MORE TO COME.
