The PURE Native Hawaiian population numbers only in the thousands.
Animosity towards whites here isn't so much a racial thing as it is an attitude thing, although the racial issue definitely exists. There are racists everywhere, and Hawaii is no exception. And BTW, there is also racial tension between all races here, not just between whites and Native Hawaiians.
Whites who are humble, respectful, sharing, and willing to listen are accepted more often than not. It's when anyone from outside of Hawaii arrives with a holier-than-thou attitude replete with a superiority complex and loud expressions of such that you get trouble.
