does the money make you happy?

Ugh, this is the old Coolweb that just wont go away.

Bro, you dont have millions in the bank so please stop it with this drivel.

Quote from coolweb:

I see lots of people are all on the same track :)

Just to add something that has not been mentioned.

Once you have reached past a point I'd say $1.5-2M+ where your living income is guaranteed regardless of whether you work or not, You have now reached the top range of happiness (that is if you are happy already).

Theres different levels of happinesses.

When I was stepping up, I was very hungry, in fact, you may think I'm hungry now, back some years ago, I would probably be a starving cat in NYC in 20 degree winter weather under a shed looking for scraps.

The constant thought of where you are in your reaches of your first million

is stress beyond imagination.

In fact every single dollar, single thousand, 50 thousand, 100 thousand you make during your ventures did not make you any closer to the first million because you are so close yet so far away.

This creates an insane amount of stress because no matter what you do, you still have a long long way to go.

Once you have reached the magical number, and over, and have created a sense of "SECURITY" for oneself which all humans crave.

It truely takes you to another level of calmness and happinesss.

Stress free happiness.

The highest level of happiness achievable.

I don't regret the immense stress when struggling because thats what makes the man.

On a similar thought,

Money only enhances everything you have in life,
So If you couldn't get a hot girl before you didn't have money, you won't be getting a hot girl after you have money without paying, which is fine btw.

But if you could get one before, oh , the beauty you will be pimping after.

I tell my students that teaching is what makes me happy, it's obviously not my paycheck, but I'd be happier if they doubled my pay.

Quote from cooldude:
I think that it is not teaching but the sparks that you see in their eyes that make you happy when you manage to connect like in the movie ET.

Cooldude,

I don't want this to sound rude. So, please don't take it that way.

Quotes like,

"I teach because of the satisfaction I get from watching a student who has struggled and struggled, all of a sudden, get it."

and

"It's the feeling I get when that connection has finally been made that makes it all worth while."

don't apply to 99% of teachers today.

That applied to teachers who were given a house to live in and were asked to dinner 5 nights a week in the community they taught in.

Those quotes are used today to get people to take a job that anyone in their right mind would never consider.

I should make myself more clear. It's not teaching that makes me happy. I also coach.

After 17 years, I earn $48,000 per year teaching in one of the highest paying districts in Texas and $6300 coaching.

I spend 5 times as much time and 10 times as much effort coaching because that's what makes me happy.

So BSAM is probably right. Most teachers are probably overpaid cosidering the amount of effort that they put into their jobs.

I never encourage any of my students to be teachers. It makes no sense economically.
I am so sorry that I was wrong.
My apologies.

I thought that teachers teach because they love to make kids smarter
and not because they have no other way to pay their grocery bills.

My sincerey apologies for having offended a pragmatic mercenary.
I guess I was too idealistic.

I wish you success in trading because the sooner you become successful in trading the better it will be for your students (and for you).
:D

there is a zillionaire HF trader / manager who
would rather have his family be healthy than
the millions he is giving away to fund research
to find a cure for the disease that has struck
one of his kids.

I know there are others too who have been blessed with all the worldly goods , material things
and yet feel like they have little compared to the
good health and longevity of some of their
poorer cousins and people in their communities

I try to do some good deed everyday ... its priceless

what is happiness? is it having absolutely no problems - being healthy, rich and loved etc.?

money does not make you happy - this is what they keep telling you. well - money ALONE does not make you happy - if you have everything you need for being happy - EXCEPT money- then a little (or a lot of) money could make you perfectly happy maybe. what it comes down to is whether you know how it feels to live WITHOUT money - if you ever experienced such a feeling and overcame it - money def. can make you happy. i don't know if you could be perfectly happy if you are 100% healthy but poor and lonely - so you could also say healthiness does not make you happy ...

even if i was incurably sick - i'd prefer to be sick and rich than sick and poor. money alone does not make you happy but if you arrive at a point were you probably have enough money for the rest of your live then this might also be a good basis to solve all your other problems or at least some of them. and if you maybe own MUCH more money then you ever need - than you can do something for the poor in this world - maybe this will make you happy.

but hey - i personally don't know anyone who is really happy - life one the long run isn't really about happiness - it's about being healthy - and then you need money to survive - that's it. and if you have a little more money - maybe you are healthy AND free - it couldn't get much better.
