Does Technical analysis tell you anything about upcoming earnings?

Here is a LNKD chart from a couple of days ago. They announce their earnings later today after close. Do you think it has held that trend line for a reason and is now going to gap up as it did back in late Oct'14, and early Feb'15...

Holy cow. The earnings straddle was pricing a small move. But, 20% down in AH. That takes it back down to the 1st earnings jump.

A simpler side note, does pre-earnings performance telegraph post earnings performance (positively or negatively)? I would like to see the research if anybody has links.

Anyways, back on topic. I am surprised the LNKD move wasn't echoed in the QQQ. But then it's after market. Anybody remember the Monster.com rally circa 2001-2002?

AAPL, FB, TWTR pre-earnings performance compared to the post-earnings performance can be applied to any number of stocks and any earnings season. There is no correlation between pre and post earnings performance.

Agreed, especially on the momentum stocks, since you can have a significant variance from one quarter to the next. Earnings plays are random shots, and hindsight is always 20/20.

Not really. You may only assume when you see strong volume surge before earning announcements that somebody who has access to the inner information either dumping or buying in big volumes. If such strong volume surge was note, you may analyze it and act accordingly.

TA tells much about what people know, hope, fear, anticipate. Earnings may/may not be in there somewhere.
