Does Israel have the firepower to wipe Iran off the map?

Vice Premier Shimon Peres said Monday that "the president of Iran should remember that Iran can also be wiped off the map."

"Teheran is making a mockery of the international community's efforts to solve the crisis surrounding Iran's nuclear program," Peres told Reuters, adding that "Iran presents a danger to the entire world, not just to us."

Peres's vehement expressions came the same day that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad wrote to US President George W. Bush proposing "new solutions" to their differences in the first letter from an Iranian leader to an American president in 27 years, Iranian government spokesman Gholam-Hossein Elham said Monday.

Israel doesn't need firepower.... the command the USA to do it's bidding.... and the US sure has enough "firepower" to "wipe Iran off the map"

......"The USA is MY B*TCH!".......

Wiping Tehran (and maybe a couple of other major cities) off the map will more than suffice and no doubt Israel has enough firepower to do that. I frankly don't know what they are waiting for.

Israel has an estimated 100 or so nuclear weapons. The US has over 10,000, including thousands of thermonuclear monsters like the 9-megaton B53 bomb and variable yield 340-kiloton B61 tactical nuke which can destroy any underground facilities in a second. Our nuclear subs carry about 25,000 Hiroshimas worth of fire power. We have loads of cruise missiles that can carry 200+ kiloton nukes. Iran has nada. Who do YOU think will win this one? "Go ahead, make my day." These wackos are trying hard to jump-start Armageddon. Unfortunately for the innocents involved, a preemptive attack of some sort may prove to be necessary by the US or Israel. Hopefully we can make Iran an offer they cannot refuse and avoid all hell breaking loose in this troubled area. I think President Bush should send Mr. Ahmadinejad an autographed copy of the DVD "Trinity and Beyond" in reply to his written peace offering received today.

So if there had been a credible threat by Iraq (but no real threat) then you would have supported a pre-emptive war?

It certainly depends on the specifics of the situation. I don't believe Saddam ever threatened to wipe the US off the map but even if he did it could not be taken seriously. The US is several thousand miles away from Iraq, ten times larger and ten thousand times stronger militarily. On the other side when Iran says it will wipe Israel off the map and we all know they tried before (not iranians but still) I tend to trust this promise.
