Does IB ever respond to e-mails?

Just out of curiousity, why java instead of C++ ? I've never seen a Java app that looked or ran as good as it's equivalent C++ app. Java is slow, buggy, and ugly. I don't understand why people still choose Java for GUI apps. You might say portability, but how many people do you have that actually use Solaris, Linux, Mac, etc? I'd bet 95 percent of your users are Windows users.
How do you know ?
Why not: 75% Windows, 20% Linux, 5% MacOS.
And the number of Linux users might be growing rapidly ...

That's debatable... but I digress...

As far as being off-topic goes, since the original question of this thread was answered, I didn't see the harm in going off-topic.

But, back to my original question, why the preference for Java? You didn't actually answer it.

as I said I'm not on the programming end. I assume it is for scalability and use on a number of platforms.

metooxx, next time quote my entire sentence and not a piece. I said my comments were based upon others commenting on the boards, do a search. My own experience though is that I can't notice any difference between using java (TWS) and a windows based programs. I see absolutely no delays and using hotkeys can enter orders much faster than the windows interfaces supplied by the exchanges. As I'm sure you know, it's the backend that counts.

Let me guess... you are a C++ programmer?

, why don't they respond to e-mails? I sent a couple last week (about IRA fees) and still no response.

I haven't found much of a wait getting hold of someone by phone so that's a plus.

I sent an e-mail once, and got no response.

I am able to get them on the phone however, and often find them to be abrupt (not all of them however, not fair to bash them all)

A few months ago I had a trade problem. A buy order got hung at PHLX, I called to ask them to manually cancel it, they said they would, but it got executed a half hour later, and since it put me over the margin limit, IB sold it at market a minute later. I called IB, they said the original order had been cancelled. I called PHLX, and they investigated and said the order was never cancelled. IB said it was, and said I should send them email describing the situation. I did and never heard back from them. I assumed they just thought "we're not going to spend time on a $30 inquiry" and ignored it. IB has still saved me more money on commissions than a larger broker with a larger service staff would have, so I'm still with them.

Wow, I had almost the same problem with IB/PHLX about a year ago! ...except for the margin issue. I do my best not to route to PHLX anymore.... I feel your pain...lucky enough for me though they busted the trades the same day cus I raised a fus....

I was only questioning the fragment ...
