Does anyone make a living using straight directional trades ?

Not spinning per se, but amused and interested in the "directions" (pun intended ) that multiple posters are taking the thread...
Just curious if other option traders find it necessary to be well versed in Greek nomenclature and trade multi stage and leg positions to make money ? Are condors, butterflies, straddles, spreads, debits and credits Oh My...necessary versus buying and selling calls and puts ?
