Does anyone here use more esoteric trading strategies like Astrology or psychics?

About Larry
Larry Pesavento is president of Trading Tutor and a 45-year veteran trader. He managed Drexel Burnham Lambert's commodity department from 1976 to 1981. Following this, Mr. Pesavento became a floor trader at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, trading S&P futures, T-Bills, gold, and foreign currencies until 1984, then he traded for Commodity Corporation of Princeton, New Jersey, until 1986. He has trained more than 1000 students, in the US and abroad, over the past 25 years and maintains a vast library of books on trading. As the author of 10 textbooks on trading, he describes the evolution of his discovery of the steps necessary to become a successful trader. Each year, Mr. Pesavento speaks to hundreds of traders and is a guest lecturer for many different investment programs, including radio, Internet, and universities, both in the US and the Far East. He uses a pattern recognition system of swing trading that employs swing ratio analysis along with cyclical analysis; focusing on risk control is the key to this system.
The bottom line to all of that...is he's basically an Educator, teacher, academic on trading.
And old dinosaur Pit traders aren't traders. They are more of basic order processors, and maybe scalpers/arbitragers.

A market trader, in the truest sense, is someone who is able to grow his own personal account into a much larger, huge, sum.

Just to be clear I’m not promoting Larry or any of his trading methods. I studied his stuff back in the 90’s and to be honest It wasn’t for me.

the book I recommended has nothing today with him or his trading style or systems and has everything to do with the mental part of the business. How one thinks is a big obstacle towards success.

The way to evaluate any strategy is to test a statistically significant data sample. The way not to evaluate a strategy would be to ask random anonymous "traders" on ET. That said, Larry Pesavento, a very smart fellow writes of Planetary Harmonics. Again, any validity to that or any other predictive potential needs to be tested prior to being worked into a trade plan.

Early in my development I thought that being complex and esoterically different was the way to profitability. Do what no one else has thought of. The expensive realization was reached that the simpler the better. It's the institutional programs who move the markets and the key is to figure out what they are doing and when. We don't make money by fooling the markets, we make money by agreeing with them.

Another BRILLIANT post -- concise and cogent. Speedo thanks.

If the system required me to be in exactly in an 80 degree ocean, on the 8th day of the month, for 80 minutes. Because 8 sideways is the infinity sign indicating infinite profits, and 0 is a super special number.

AND then I can write off the expenses as "trading system requirements".

No, I don't use such things, but the temtation is really strong.
I know that there were such stories with the investors who bought some shares because of their tickers. That was something like if the ticker starts with the letter N and there are four letters, then this share will definetely grow. Such stories are quite common because of the fact that people like superstitions and trading is a kind of business where people are extremely nervous and they are ready to do anything in order to improve their results.
Surely, such strategies don't work and they are unable to bring you any sustainable consistent profits. If you talk about astrology, it is too complicated. Why don't you just flip the coin and make trading decisions accordingly?

You will be surprised. I can't 100% prove that psychic abilities work to someone who is a skeptic since there is no way to quantify it. But from my experience, I have seen enough to feel there is a degree of correlation more than just sheer luck.
