Does AAPL split have a record date?

Got this from my broker:
Shares of Apple Inc. (AAPL) will split 4 for 1 on Aug. 31 for shareholders of record on Aug. 24. If you own Apple stock, there's nothing you have to do, and there are no fees.

If I bought the stock on 8/25, I can still get the split share, right? Then why 8/24 matters?

Why not call your broker and ask?
