the prob is that say there is a low vol environment so you increase position size to compensate then a black swan happens and/or for whatever reason vol spikes then you have a huge problem.

there are always markets w/ vol and/or trending every year (e.g. this year take a look at the YTD charts for NG, CT, CC).
