Do you tell people you're a trader?

Quote from I Missed Boat:

So the fact that I work without ever leaving my bed could give the wrong impression? What if I plaster my bedroom with charts? :D

Only if you move your bed to a office.

Quote from Visaria:

I trade/research from an office at home...will this suffice?

No.

why not?

why not?

You have to separate home and work.

Quote from Baruch:

You need a ofifce - to impress people. If you have no job and works from home, everyone thinks you are unemployed (and a loser).
That's not an attitude I've ever encountered in Europe, I must say. But I've only ever traded from home and never had a "proper job", so I don't have much to compare with. Most people who see my home see it knowing that trading income pays the mortgage on it. I've never felt the need to have an office as well to impress anyone. My living room does that just fine.

You never had a job? Were you born as trader?

Baruch,

I work from home in America. I work for several prestigious people with homes and offices in Beverly Hills, amoung other places. I drive a 1990 Plymouth Voyager. I rent a modest 800 sq foot apartment. I am the highest paid associate (independant contractor) on their collective staff.

I find time to trade in between my phone calls from home and I would not have it any other way. I am building Wifeys and my retirement account and look forward to returning to full time trading.

Your have made so many statements in this thread that simply are not true, you seem young.

Michael B.

Feels like it! :)

My father is a trader and investor and I was encouraged from a fairly young age. I finished being a student not so long ago, but I've been trading real money for 5 years (only been making a real living for 3 years, though, but steadily improving and certainly don't want an "office"!).

OK. Good trading!
