Do you pay short borrow fee on a short stock position opened during after-hours

You do not pay short borrow fee on a short stock position opened and closed intraday.

If you have a short position in a stock at market close, you will pay the borrow fee for the next day.

If you do not have a short position in a stock at market close, but take a short position during after-hours and keep it overnight, will you pay the borrow fee for the next day?

So the cut off to determine whether you hold a position overnight is not at the end of regular trading hours when the regular market closes, but at the end of after-hours trading at 8 pm eastern time?
