Remember the worlds first (working) plastic firearm? Well, shockingly, Eric Holder and other statists arenât huge fans and are urging Congress to renew and enforce a 1988 law that requires that all firearms be detectable by metal detectors.
From Fox News:
Calling 3-D plastic guns an âextremely serious problem,â Attorney General Eric Holder called on Congress to renew a law that requires all firearms to be subject to metal detection.
The Undetectable Firearms Act, a law first enacted in 1988 and then reauthorized in 2003, makes it illegal to âmanufacture, import, sell, ship, deliver, possess, transfer or receiveâ any firearm thatâs undetectable by scanners. But the law is set to expire Dec. 9, unless Congress again reauthorizes it. Holder said the new technology of printing 3-D guns made of plastic means guns could potentially be smuggled onto planes, into federal buildings or at large public events.
âThis is an extremely serious problem,â Holder said in a statement. âThis is a very worrisome threat to law enforcement and to people who fly every day. We canât have guns legally in circulation that are not detectable by metal detectors.â
Two Democratic senators, Chuck Schumer of New York and Bill Nelson of Florida, have called for a ban on plastic guns...
Just reading through the 2nd amendment here:
A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
Yeah, I donât see anything in there that requires firearms to be made out of a particular material.
Furthermore, while metal detectors were first invented and used around the turn of last century, they didnât exist on a broad scale until the 1960s, which means the feds havenât been even able to detect a metal gun until relatively recently. And now itâs mandatory for all firearms to be metal? What a ludicrous notion.
Letâs be clear, just like Obamacare isnât about helping the uninsured and welfare isnât about helping the poor, this is not about safety, it is about government control.
