Do High Frequency Trading Bots operate at evening and pre-market?

If trading bots do not sleep or eat, how come pre/after trading markets are not the same as day time?

profits after hours are much less as there is less human meat. Market makers simply widen their spreads to compensate for the risk vs income.

As far as I know, the profits made after hours are much less than the normal hours.
