I like both professions, that's my edge in finance. I can only comment based on my extensive experience. Sheds defense is classic, seen it dozens of time. No proof is there. You still flying, or retired?

Liking something is not an edge, being exceptionally good at that something is, being retired is not a marker to success in my eyes, many people continue to practice their profession long after they have the resources to walk away, however it appears retirement is a marker of success in your eyes and as you continue to practice your salesmanship it appears success is out of your reach.
