The Department's mission is to protect and promote the lives of Illinois consumers.
We regulate most of the professionals and financial institutions that Illinois families depend on everyday â from banks to veterinarians and almost everything in between. We also work with the licensed professionals, members of the General Assembly, law enforcement officers, consumer groups and concerned public citizens to make sure that unscrupulous businesses and incompetent professionals canât take advantage of their customers and clients.

We license everything from barbers to banks and architects to veterinarians. We also monitor most of the states financial institutions, which have combined assets in excess of $4 trillion.

IDFPR Organization
The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation is made up of three divisions:
The Division of Banking regulates mortgage companies, state chartered banks, trust companies, savings institutions, pawnbrokers, check printers and registers Automatic Teller Machines established by others than financial institutions.
The Division of Financial Institutions regulates credit unions, currency exchanges, short term lending firms and other financial institutions.
The Division of Professional Regulation licenses and oversees nearly 1 million professionals who are required to be licensed in Illinois.
