DNC Files Lawsuit Alleging Trump, Russia Collusion

The Democratic Party on Friday sued President Donald Trump's presidential campaign, the Russian government and the Wikileaks group, claiming a broad conspiracy to help Trump win the 2016 election.

The multi-million-dollar lawsuit filed in Manhattan federal court says that "In the Trump campaign, Russia found a willing and active partner in this effort" to mount "a brazen attack on American Democracy."

The suit says that "preexisting relationships with Russia and Russian oligarchs" with Trump and Trump associates "provided fertile ground for [the] Russia-Trump conspiracy."

The common purpose of the scheme, according to the Democratic National Committee, was to "bolster Trump and denigrate the Democratic Party nominee," Hillary Clinton, while boosting the candidate of Trump, "whose policies would benefit the Kremlin."

The named defendants include Trump's son Donald Trump Jr., his son-in-law Jared Kushner, former campaign chief Paul Manafort and campaign official Richard Gates, and Trump ally Roger Stone.

Also named is the Russian Federation, the general state of the Russian armed force, a Russian intelligence services hacker known as Guccifer 2.0., Wikileaks and its leader Julian Assange, and 10 unidentified people.

"No one is above the law," the suit says.

"In the run-up to the 2016 election, Russia mounted a brazen attack on American Democracy. The opening salvo was an attack on the DNC, carried out on American soil."

"In 2015 and 2016, Russian intelligence services hacked into the DNC's computers, penetrated its phone systems and exfiltrated tens of thousands of documents and emails," the suit says.

"Russia then used this stolen information to advance its own interests: destabilizing the U.S. political environment, denigrating Democratic presidential nominee, and supporting the campaign of Donald J. Trump ... whose policies would benefit the Kremlin," the suit charges.

The suit alleges claims that include conspiracy, computer fraud and abuse, misappropriation of trade secrets, trespass, and other violations of the law.

My first reaction upon seeing this was that it was a delayed April Fool's Day joke. But this is ..ahem..4/20, not 4/1.

There is one line that is beyond priceless in the complaint. "No one is above the law." Coming from the party of Clinton, Obama and Eric Holder, that is pretty bold.

This lawsuit is beyond idiotic. First, what possible relief can a court grant? Overturn the election? Second, they foolishly filed it in Manhattan. You would think any first year law student would know to file it in California, where the chances of getting a nutcase judge are quite good and where any appeal would go to the even nuttier Ninth Circuit.

All kidding aside, I question the risk/reward tradeoff here. The defendants are entitled to discovery. Do they really want Trump's lawyers demanding vast quantities of documents from the DNC and Clinton campaign? And having the DNC officials deposed? Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, step right on down here. We have a few questions about the Awan brothers for you.

Indeed. Cancel my reply along the same line in the other thread. You covered things.

Exactly --- the discovery process is going to be a real biatch to the DNC and their top officials in their misguided suit. It opens the door to Trump demanding every email and communication associated with the DNC party and the Hillary campaign. Obviously the DNC has a lot to hide (including how they squeezed Bernie out) so this suit is going to backfire on them badly.

Completely boneheaded move on the part of the DNC. Most of the dem party is trying to move past talking about hillary and this a massive blunder in the wrong direction. The DNC is also trying to counter the hatred of the dnc by becoming relevant and this is also a major blunder on that front right because it will replay tapes about DNC corruption, and screwing Bernie over and over again. The DNC is trying to do something ballsy to remain as Dem Central while a massive number of dems are holding back and planning to donate directly to the candidates rather than via the DNC.

DNC fundraising is a mess and they are broke despite all the bullfeathers flying around. Tom Perez recently crowed about the dnc having the biggest january for donations in his history. Then had to walk it back and say that he meant to say that it was the biggest January since 2012. Of course, with this lawsuit, Trump and Putin will be writing big checks at the end so they are all set, so what am I sayin? And yes, in 2020 there will be a massive amount of dem money flying around so the tards can spare me that rap. My point is that a massive number of donors are not planning on wasting it on the DNC, and Perez knows that.

Even someone like Gloria Borger on CNN- whose entire life is concentrated on hating Trump- thinks this lawsuit is a dumb idea. Not a good sign.

This lawsuit is all about the DNC trying to take a leadership role again after being in the toilet. Complete idiots. Did the DNC even consult with anyone outside of DC before doing this?
