‘Swear in Pence’: Bush ethics czar says Sondland testimony is ‘game over’ for Trump as president

It is time for Republicans to dump President Donald Trump and swear-in Vice President Mike Pence, a top former Republican White House official declared on Wednesday.

Richard Painter, the former chief White House ethics lawyer in the George W. Bush administration, came to his conclusion after the blockbuster opening statement of Ambassador Gordon Sondland was released.

Well, in regard to Biden being disqualified from holding office, unless the People's Star Chamber is going to meet and revise the Constitution that is hardly possible is it? Disqualifying a person from holding future office is a remedy available to the Senate to apply to those being impeached so you would have to get him back into office first to even begin to mess with him. Otherwise the Senate has no jurisdiction over him.

I would go after Joe on this issue bigtime as part of the examination of presidential candidates. I would show him no mercy, and do what I could to totally eviscerate Joe, Hunter, and others within his circle. They would feel the pain. But at no point would I kangaroo court him. The American people are totally capable of sorting that out at the polls. DITTO FOR TRUMP. If federal prosecutors have a case of Joe they should pursue that. I am just saying I would not kangaroo court him in a political impeachment adjudication, as they are doing to Trump.
 
You cannot disqualify him from running for office, true, but GOP should blast it all over the media and news non-stop as their platform if Biden wins nomination. Play the video non stop with the title "The Real Ukraine Issue" etc...

But with Trump he can be subject to a punishment because he did his act while in office and is still in office.

Joe is out on the streets so what he did cannot be tried by Congress if he is no longer in office.

This is the establishment/cuck wing of the party floating a trial balloon to get rid of Trump. I would guess 30 or so republican senators would love to toss Trump off the back of the wagon and get back to starting pointless wars and selling out their voters for Koch Industries.

The problem is they know voters will come for them with pitchforks. Hence, they are trying to build pressure for a secret vote on the trial phase. Trump is probably a goner if they get that but it would certainly be the end of the republican party. Ideally they would like to force Trump to resign in lieu of a trial, like they did to Richard Nixon. Good luck with that. Nixon was a statesman. Trump is a street fighter.

I don't think theres anything in the constitution that says impeachment votes can't be secret and The Senate can make there own rules.Get on it Mitch.

Would it be fair to say the impeachment has at least not hurt Trump’s approval ratings? Would it be more accurate to say the impeachment proceedings actually helped Trump’s approval rating by at least 2% according to Gallup?

Could it be, as seen with Bill Clinton, when the public perceives a legal action is predominately partisan, they are supportive of the harmed party? In spite of history and timely warnings impeachment was not a good move, Democrats went ahead anyway. It seems to me Democrats in general are not fit to lead either by philosophy, competence, or representative diligence.

Would it also be fair to conclude voters overall don’t think favorably towards the impeachment proceedings?

In other words, in spite of the almost 24/7 histrionics of the media and Democrats, it is fair to characterize the impeachment efforts as, at best, a complete waste of time?

We both know this charade will continue as Democrats have painted themselves into a corner, without a easy, face saving way out.

Closer to home, I wonder when you’ll decide to leave the sinking ship issue known as the Ukraine impeachment proceedings, AKA the Democrat approved voter disfranchisement act of 2019?
