No form of democracy is without flaw. No system is guaranteed to work over the long run either. The United States was never founded as a democracy. The constitution makes no mention of it whatsoever.Quote from Gringinho:
Of course, a direct democracy would rid all these systemic biases and corruption - the possibility and temptation of "human error" from elections and voting - eliminating most types of election and voting fraud.
Just now the US population is not ready for democracy... they are still dreaming of "winning" with "greatness".

A Constitutional Republic is a better system and the one in which the US was founded on. Over the course of several decades the men pulling the strings have successfully convinced the public that there were only two sides (which are basically the same these days): Republican (conservative) and Democrat (liberal).
The most common misconception has been that there are two extreme sides and most people are in the middle. However, political systems would be better understood compared to a volume bar on a stereo. To the extreme right, you have no government (anarchy). To the extreme left, you have totalitarianism.
To the right of totalitarianism, you have monarchy, oligarchy, democracy, and then republic. The system currently in place in this country is an oligarchy disguised as a democracy.
However, neither system works.
The United States government has to be dismantled from the top down. Measures can be taken to help keep it from happening again, but that's no guarantee.
