Discretionary Equity Trading Journal

Today was pretty much a flat trade. Couldn't do much with my toddler pulling at my leg today. I missed so many trades, and made quite a few poor trades because I was distracted, but caught a few ok trades to make it pretty much about a flat day. Lesson is that I may not be trading this next week, since preserving profits is more important than trading when I am distracted and not able to give it 100%.

Yes that is rule # 1, Preserve Precious Capital....

Was able to squeeze in two small trades today, before my toddler started requiring my attention. Traded lighter size today as well. Caught a bit of the morning pop in TWX, and a bit of the pop in HCA. Good executions, although I took profit a bit soon.

Was distracted a bit this morning by my toddler, so I was unhappy with the fact that I missed a few trades by hesitating, turning my head away from the screen at crucial moments, etc. Missed out on the long I was waiting for on the KORS breakout this morning. Missed the SNDK short that I saw developing, missed the UNH pop that I should have been involved with. However, I did still see TWX shaping up and got involved and added a little more size, so caught most of that morning drive. Calling it a day to go play with my toddler and focus on him.

Not the best job today in executing. I chased TWX a bit instead of waiting until it pulled back, which made my loss a little larger than it should have been when it reversed. In addition, I should have manually taken at least some of my position off when it wouldn't break to new highs. I also chased KORS a little and took a small hit when it reversed. However, I did catch SNDK with a perfect entry, with patience to find a good position to enter with size and caught a nice long. Also caught a nice long on YUM with size. Calling it an early day and am going to enjoy the weekend.

Had a negative day today where I kept revenge trading NFLX to the long side and then hit my daily loss limit before I could reverse to a short when it showed a nice area of resistance. I also had two nice longs that I let reverse on me and gave back significant profits and let them turn into losses. Extremely disappointed in my execution today. I have made a decision to also reduce my size a little and really try to hone in on my executions more. I have had a great amount of success the last few weeks, and I have been fortunate to be significantly positive more than negative. However, I feel like I have been letting my risk taking expand beyond the threshold of what is appropriate. So, I am going to cut this back a little for now.

Do you stop for the day once you hit your daily loss limit?

I stop trading once my daily stop loss is hit without exception.

Today, being another example of that unfortunately. I had great execution, but I accidentally bought NFLX instead of selling it. I stopped looking at my P&L while trading, so didn't notice until much later. I was having a blast watching it go down, and was about to cover to take profit and call it an early day, and noticed that I was actually long instead.

Negative 1500 mistake. :-(

YUM,UNH,TWX ? Not what i would expect a prop day trader to select, but what do i know. Seems you know your stocks very well and know which rocks will be a good ones to turn over for the day.
Can you say more?

I trade anything that I think will move significantly that day. The days that I traded YUM, UNH, and TWX, there were significant news catalysts and the charts also indicated a continuation move. I also trade the typical momentum stocks like a NFLX, TSLA, etc.
