difference between regular HA and smoothed HA

I've seen reference to smoothed HA (Heiken Ashi) bars during my research, but for the life of me, I can't figure out what the difference is from the regular HA bars.

Could anybody shed some light on this issue? Also, the default indicator that comes with NT, is that regular or smoothed?
