If you are saying that someone who does not pay their income tax just because they don't agree with the way that tax money is spent shouldn't have their property seized and/or imprisoned because of unwillingness to pay taxes I disagree with you.

There have been some who self-righteously stood up against the principles of taxation on non partisan principles. That stance is much different than those who just don't like "how" the money is spent.

Even Thoreau's civil disobedience was politically based, not an opposition to the concept of taxation.

Our founding fathers were also not against taxation. They were against taxation without representation.

Taxation is a necessary aspect of society that has any form of public government. You gotta pay the politicians and government workers, and you have to pay them in a manner that is free of extortion by those paying their wages.

Can you imagine if private enterprise fully funded our government? Horrors!

Somehow these black and white thinkers believe it impossible to be a capitalist with a social conscience.

The issue is whether or not a society has a responsibility to its members. I think for the good of the society, the answer is yes. How to do that is the age old question.

A pure capitalist would not give a dime to anyone else unless it profited him financially.

A pure socialist would pool all the money and distribute it to those who need it most.

A pure communist would pool all the money and distribute it evenly.

A moderate finds himself living in the non extreme gray area of paying taxes and voting for the party he thinks will spend the tax money in the best way the government can.

One common element that remains is waste of money in government on behalf of both Republicans and Democrats.

It is funny how we never hear much about the money government wastes by having non competitive defense contractors bid on projects, etc.

I suppose that is because politicians from both parties never like to look too deeply at their own sins, choosing rather to focus on the sins of the opposing party.

The majority of the problems in government are not due to political ideology.

Really, how much sense does it make that senators vote their own raises?

It is one big bloated machine, the Federal Government of ours.

This is where we need the reform most, but where it happens the least.

My bad RS. I assumed that your endless promotion of anti-war Democrat's was indicitive of your disdain for the effort in Iraq. I stand corrected. You are a hawk on U.S. military involvement in the Middle East.

BTW: I think you know that while I'm not a fan of the political philosophy that most Jew's (and urban Catholics!) expouse, I'm far from an anti-Semite.

OK, see what happens when we make assumptions?

I am NOT a "hawk on US military involvement in the Middle East" as we are handling it now. However I was ALWAYS in favor of deposing Sadam. I just thought we did it the wrong way. Not only that, I thought we should have done it long ago.

Show me an example of my "endless promotion of anti-war Democrats".

"ENDLESS"? You won't find one. Maybe you have me confused with someone else.

Next point....you must know a lot more about how Jews and urban Catholics think than I do. However I assure you from my experience, which includes being at my wife's side as a fundraiser for the Jewish community, her donors (only a small sampling, so maybe you are right about the rest of the world) are absolutely NOT more "liberal/Democrat" than "conservative/Republican. Or the other way around.

Read my prior posts on this. In the past 6 years, George Bush Sr. and Collin Powell were among the speakers at the annual Palm Beach Dinners for the ADL, (one speaker per year) which we go to (she does not work for the ADL, but did for many years..now WE go as donors).

There is approximately zero correlation between the Jewish community and politics. Among the other speakers were Bill Bradley (when he was seeking the nomination), and Sam Donaldson, who is certainly an example of the "liberal press". Margaret Thatcher was supposed to be a speaker a few years ago, but had to cancel (don't remember why).

Point is, all these speakers were equally accepted by the big donors (or as you may think of them, the "Rich Jewish Socialists").

Give it a break. Stereotype people, and you just look foolish.

I do NOT think you are an anti-semite. I DO think you are misinformed, and you have non valid opinions based of God knows what. So I apologize for the KKK crack. But that's what you provoke when you stereotype a people based on nothing.

RS, would it be 'sterotyping' to say that African-Americans tend to vote Democratic? It's not steroetyping, it's true...and the same goes for Jews.

There are people being killed all over the world for reasons they have control or no control over......dont be stupid all your life...you cant compare apples to oranges....these soldiers are being targeted and we are not talking a big sample either ( 200k soldiers at most ).....how can you compare???

Don't be stupid? I think there is a huge double standard here. Democrats are using the death of our soldiers overseas for political gain yet what about all the deaths domestically. We have some serious problems in this country regarding crime, education, inner city issues, drugs, and liberal judges and lawyers. Now what are they doing about that? NOTHING!

Look, you know as well as I do that everyone cares about the death of soldiers ok. The right cares, the left cares, Bush cares. It is stupid to say that we want these soldiers to die or they we don't care about their deaths. What I'm saying is lets put this in perspective. We are at f*cking war here! Do you know how many americans lost their lives in World War II? We still haven't even lost a faction to what we lost on 9/11.

What pisses me off is there ARE things we can do to fix our domestic problems but we are not because of partisanship politics. It makes me sick. What makes me even more sick is when those same partisan democrats who do absolutely nothing about these domestic issues, go on and use the deaths of our serviceman to gain some kind of political edge going into the 2004 elections. It's absolutely disgusting! You should be ashamed of yourself if your one of them.
