Did Ashcroft know about the 9/11 threat?

Quote from james_bond_3rd:

So the excuse for doing nothing is that it would not have prevented the attacks anyway.

First of all, that is a questionable excuse. The lower parts of the government were actually doing their jobs. We had Moussaui in custody a month before the attack. Tenet was warning everyone that he could get a hold of that the threat was a "10." The very top of the government, Bush, Rice, Ashcroft, dropped the ball. They did nothing. We cannot say whether there would have been a difference if they did something, for example, forming a task force to study the threat. If such a task force were formed, and didn't find the connection between Moussaui and the WTC plot, then the blame goes to the task force. But the fact is, Bush, Rice, and Ashcroft did nothing. So they should shoulder the blame.

Even if they reacted immediately, but due to the human's inability to see beyond past experiences and focused on (for example) international flights, and failed to prevent the attacks, at least they could claim that they tried. But they didn't even try.

Trying does not require hindsight. Not trying is unforgivable.

Great post.

Thank you for the response. However, the kleptocrats in power today and their klansmen, who are their chief supporters, will keep on trying... trying to destroy the fundamentals that make this country great.

What do you mean by "nothing". the FBI had SEVENTY SEPERATE Bin Laden cases going in the summer of 2001. Read the fucking 9/11 report before you spew your garbage. Asshole.

Thank you for the polite language.

Perhaps you read too fast and skipped a paragraph or two. Or perhaps you're having reading difficulties. Did you see the line "the lower parts of the government were doing their jobs?"

I said that Bush, Rice, and Ashcroft did nothing. Unless one of them worked for the FBI and was on one of those cases, the fact that the FBI was working on multiple Bin Laden cases does not prove that Bush, Rice, or Ashcroft did anything to address the explicit threat that everyone saw was coming.

Of course he knew of "a" threat, but date specific? No! By no means does this give him a pass. He's as guilty as the rest for minimizing the nature of terrorism prior to 9/11.

Ashcroft? He's a freakin' prosecutor. What does the DOJ have to do with it? Pre-Patriot Act he's not even remotely a player in terror prevention. That's like saying where was Clinton's Secretary of Agriculture Dan Glickman when OKC was going down. Wasn't fertilizer used?

Obviously you haven't bothered to spend three hours or so reading the Commission's report. Why don't you skip your usual Jon Stewart-South Park double header and do some reading. Arguing with an idiot who's uninformed get's tiresome.

And where was NORAD?

NORAD's Changing Accounts to the 9/11 Commission
For more than two years after the attacks, NORAD and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) provided incorrect information about the response to the 9/11 hijackings in testimony and media appearances to the 9/11 Commission (Washington Post, August 2, 2006). NORAD and the FAA officials stated that U.S. air defenses had reacted quickly, that fighter jets had been scrambled to intercept planes in response to the last two hijackings and that fighters were prepared to shoot down United Airlines Flight 93 if it threatened Washington, D.C. For example, Maj. Gen. Larry Arnold and Col. Alan Scott told the commission that NORAD had begun tracking United 93 at 9:16 a.m., but the 9/11 Commission determined that the airliner was not even hijacked until 12 minutes later. According to later testimony, the military was not aware of the flight until after it had crashed in Pennsylvania.

The Commission was forced to use subpoenas to obtain the cooperation of the NORAD and FAA to release evidence such as audiotapes. The agencies' reluctance to release the tapes, along with e-mails, erroneous public statements and other evidence, led some of the panel's staff members and commissioners to believe that authorities sought to mislead the commission and the public about what happened on September 11.

Perfect example of how our government loves to conceal information of its wrong-doing. NOTHING is ever their fault, because someone or something else is always to blame. Fucking pathetic.

FYI, Ashcroft is the boss of the FBI. Didn't you just say that FBI was working on 70 cases related to Bin Laden before 9/11? Now you're telling us they have little to do with terror prevention? Wasn't Moussaui arrested by the FBI? Talk about being uninformed!

I think you should stop here. You're really embarrassing yourself.
