Detroits public school system on the brink of filing bankruptcy

Quote from aegis:

They're better off getting their GED and starting community college early. What a waste of money. Nobody in Detroit wants to learn.
I've often wondered why millions of our kids don't do exactly that.

Just think of how much money the parents could save.

2 years living at home going to JC, then 2 more years at a state school....

Better still.. take the CLEP exams... I did that years ago and got a full year's worth of credits. Back then, I was offered the chance to take only 6 tests. Now they have more than 30.

most serious colleges won't allow "a year worth of CLEPs" towards a degree.

One should check with their intended school to see if they would count.

My school wouldn't take them for any of the required courses.. like Math and English... but they let me use them for electives and gave me full credit.

Well, our President wants to give the Community Colleges 127 Billion, so there ya go. Cut off 11th and 12th grade and we'd save at least that. So it's paid for!:D

The news just keeps getting better and better in that state.

They should just let everything in the state go BK by itself so it can get a much needed fresh start from the ground up.

Honestly, does it make any difference whether they have schools or not in Detroit?

If they didn't have schools, who would provide the kids with their meals and babysitting?
