That's one possibility. Look at the history of the world's great cities. Many of them have been razed at one time or another, some multiple times. Yet, they're still there.

That's true. However, I'd argue that a lot of those cities didn't have much alternative at the time they were razed. So people had to suck it up and rebuilt. If you can move to a new city two hours away, there's not as much motivation to save what was destroyed.

The 80's were different. Japan was "top of the world"... only to have their success be overestimated.

America's demise, sadly, will be from destruction of the $USD.

She blew her 15 seconds with that final non sequitur, but until then she was headed in the right direction; I'm assuming she was trying to indicate another way a "death spiral" can be initiated (besides a severe economic contraction).

Really? be honest here for just one second, she implied that the real epidemic facing all these municipalities and states is a plethora of tax cuts, name one city/state on the verge of bankruptcy that has systematically cut taxes. Fact of the matter is the ones who are going bankrupt have both spending, and taxes at or near all time highs, so her argument is a joke. These cities/states/municipalities ONLY go broke once everyone realises that no amount of taxation is enough to make them whole again.
